Nothing good has ever come from tampering with the natural order of life and death, and yet not even death was sacred for Sukebe during his maddened war for vengeance. The breeds of the ghost typing are proof enough of this, from magicians that reanimate the bodies of the slain to bodiless pokegirl entities that seem to arise straight out of scary campfire stories and the superstitions of the less cynical members of humanity. The Spectra is perhaps the best example of the latter. While there other pokegirl breeds that are most easily described as returned spirits, the Spectra is notable for the malice it brings with it during its return to the realm of the living.

Spectra appear as normal, albeit intangible, pokegirls for the most part. They do seem to universally possess some sort of twisted malformity that deviates from living members of the breed they mimic. Often these deformations appear to be persistently lingering and grievous injuries to her person, or strange shadowy extensions from her body that may or may not have a recognizable enough form to be identified as appendages like claws or tendrils. Frightful alterations to normal body proportions may also be present at times, such as distended jaws or longer and gangly limbs. They often wear expressions on their faces that match their hateful and tormented natures; it takes a great deal of work on the part of a tamer to bring them into healthier mindsets.

It is believed by many that the Spectra arises as a new pokegirl upon the horrific and violent death of a living pokegirl. Proponents of this belief purport that the extreme negative emotions surrounding her death calls an individual’s spirit back to the world of the living where it then coalesces into the Spectra breed. Interviews with Spectra owned by tamers does little to support or debunk this belief, as in almost all cases the individuals recall little if anything concrete about a “former life”. The exception to this occurs when from their disjointed memories they can identify an individual they assume is responsible for their death. Then they will pursue this individual until the hunt consumes them, often fading away into non-existence after claiming their ‘justice’ due the relentless expenditure of energy.

An alternative, and more disturbing possibility for the breed coming into existence is the theory that a necromantic ritual exists to forcibly draw the spirits away from the afterlife and give them an incorporeal form to inhabit the living world in once again. Traces of powerful magic can sometimes be found lingering at the sights of Spectra hauntings, and there have been a number of discovered spells of infernal nature accompanied by notes claiming such a feat is possible through mastery of the spell in question.

Battling against a Spectra is just as much or more a battle against one’s own fears as it is against the breed itself. They make liberal use of Fear Aura, Wailing, Cacophony, and telepathic illusions to assault the minds of their foes all during battle, and even sometimes before they reveal themselves. A hallmark of an approaching Spectra is the sudden sharp drop of ambient temperature as they use Heat Drain to ready themselves for battle. The horrifying cries of a battling Spectra is what gave rise to peoples in western regions calling them by an alternative name; Banshees. Another tactic used is that they will possess a living individual, be they pokegirl or human, and begin assaulting anyone else in the vicinity with the newly acquired physical body. Lastly, they will simply attack directly with their telekinetic and ghost type attacks. Their incorporeal nature is the greatest defense that need be overcome; the breed possesses little endurance or durability once this is breached.

Reigning in a Spectra is an ordeal best left to individuals experienced with other ghost type breeds. Their violent nature is quelled little through the formation of a bond, they will simply not lash out against her master and continue to do so against all others if left unchecked. Individuals also nearly always come with a great deal of psychological issues and emotional barriers that need overcome before any progress in reforming their behavior can occur. As for taming, the breed can force themselves into a corporeal state long enough for the act, though it may be easier to begin with to allow them to possess a living pokegirl. This relieves the burden of mental stress they need to maintain a tangible form as well as endears them to the pokegirl in question. It’s believed the reason for this endearment is as simple as the host pokegirl granting the Spectra a great deal of nourishment in the form of the various energies they absorb from the living. Curiously, Spectra seem to give an unusual degree of respect to individuals of the Megami breed in spite of their infernal nature. These celestial pokegirls can lend a great deal of aid in reforming these volatile pokegirls.

Spectra are almost always encountered as feral. Few make use of the breed in harems and even fewer chance their erratic behavior leading to an incident in competitive matches. Little changes between their aware and feral states, except for they lack the capacity or willingness for communication and reasoning. If encountered in the wilds, the only options are to subdue the specimen or flee, and they should be contained within a pokeball at all times until a method for restraining them and holding them in a corporeal state can be utilized.

Spectra neither reproduce nor can they be the result of thresholding. While this cannot be stated with one-hundred percent certainty, no records of either have ever been reported. It also falls in line with what has been observed with similar ghost type breeds.
