Designed during the last sages of the War of Revenge, the Gunnm pokegirl was meant to be an extremely well rounded and powerful fighter, meant to be used as an elite combat unit against humanity's forces. However, the designs of this pokegirl were a bit flawed, leading to difficulties in the breed that caused them to be known as berserkers. [This is not to confuse the breed with the Berserker breed.] These pokegirls have problems with keeping their control during emotional outbursts, and as such are also known by the moniker 'The Haywire Pokegirl'.

Thought to be lost to extinction during the war, the first Gunnm was rediscovered in the Forest League in 81AS, though their evolution from the Battle Angel via a Dawn Stone was not recorded until 178AS, when researchers conducting evolution experiments recorded the process. While the breed is considered somewhat dangerous, tamers are still drawn to the challenge of keeping this powerful pokegirl in their Harem.

Upon evolving from a Battle Angel, the Gunnm breed appears much like an unarmored version of her previous evolution. Most look human, their eye and hair colors run in a myriad of colors, usually staying the same as their old form for many. For others, their inner steel nature manifests itself in a myriad of ways, at times even turning their skin into steel as well and tending to look very much like a robot. This seems to happen according to the pokegirls inner nature at the time of evolution, but researchers are still unsure as to the exact cause. Their height ranges from a very short 4' to a very tall 7', with a bust size ranging from an A to D cup. The biggest change with the breed, however, is on the inside.

The steel typing of the pokegirl is not due to the pokegirl breed's knowledge of steel type attacks, however, it is due to the armor now augmenting the pokegirl's insides, permanently lining muscles, bones, organs, and even replacing the lining of the skull and lightly coating the pokegirl's brain. This metal is the same as the Battle Angel's armor, however, this metal cannot be retracted or removed from the pokegirls organs without causing grave injury. Though as strong as it's solid form, this metal is fluid and mobile, much like the biosynthetic characteristics of other steel or rock types. In addition to this, their inner steel make up now makes them highly durable, able to absorb blows that would cripple other Very Near Human pokegirls, save a few other powerful pokegirls or the Damsel. However, the breed requires high amounts of minerals in their diet, in order to keep their system running smoothly and to repair any damage done in battle. They can also regenerate lost limbs, non-vital organs, and if stabilized, can survive major organ damage. During this time, the breed needs support with high caloric and mineral intake, or else suffers from malnutrition quickly.

These pokegirls are dangerous battlers, able to take punishment that would fell most other pokegirls, while having enough strength to land powerful hits, as well as enough speed and agility to dodge crippling blows. Unfortunately, this breed has one large flaw, the metal that protects their brain also interferes with some of it's function, particularly if the pokegirl is excited or otherwise having a stressful time emotionally. Emotions are radically amplified within a Gunnm's mind, and the breed can fly from a happy calm to a killing rage in seconds over small slights and it's dangerous to get into even a friendly sparring match with the breed, as these have been known to become deadly. Unlike the other breeds that are prone to raging, this breed suffers from emotional excess. When happy, they're ecstatic, when sad, they're severely depressed. This extreme emotional volatility combined with the pokegirl's tremendous strength and battling prowess has landed them on the restricted combat list in almost every league, and outlawed or menace lists in several.

Most Gunnms are quiet and withdrawn, they are well aware of the problems with their breed and the biases against them. They will typically claim to be another type of pokegirl until they are satisfied that their tamer isn't going to ditch them. These Steel/Fighting types can become quiet open and happy if they feels safe and accepted with their tamer and harem-sisters, however the potential for rage still exists. There is some evidence that as a Gunnm ages they gains better control over their emotions and impulses; but to date research into this matter has been spotty at best. Research has confirmed that owning a psychic type in addition to this pokegirl breed is an asset, as the psychic pokegirl can be used to drain off some the rage that the Gunnm breed is prone to allowing for a decreased accidental death rate around this volatile breed. Over the years, twenty-eight percent of tamers who have owned a Gunnm have been hospitalized and three percent were killed. This pokegirl breed is definitely NOT recommended for beginning tamers, or even intermediate ones.

Taming a Gunnm is an experience, and restraints must always be used, as many of the Tamer related deaths were from taming accidents when this breed lost control during taming. Aside from the need for restraints, these fighting steel pokegirls have varying preferences, usually based on their likes and dislikes as a Battle Angel. The breed's libido varies, depending on what subtype of Battle Angel the Gunnm was before evolution. It cannot be stressed enough, however, that restraints are needed for taming this breed.

Feral Gunnms are extremely rare, though their feral state is luckily a reduced form, like their previous evolution. It takes very little to set a feral Gunnm into attacking, and any hostile action will be met with extreme and deadly force on the feral's part. Slow and deliberate non-threatening movements are encouraged for Tamers who become cornered by this breed, and if available, an offering of food seems to distract a Gunnm long enough for the Tamer to retreat. Due to their great strength, many ferals of the breed have literally crushed the pelvises of humans they've tried to force a taming out of, and only those bloodgifted with either a durability bloodtrait or a strength bloodtrait are able to escape whole. Tamers are advised to keep an electric type on hand in any area where a Gunnm is spotted, and to use caution if encountering one in the wild.

Gunnms should be treated with the same caution as other powerful ferals as they tend to be approximately as strong as a Wolf Queen, as agile as an AmazonKaoperaa, and faster than a Peekabu, with more durability than any of the mentioned breeds. If combat with this breed is unavoidable it is recommended to engage the pokegirl with a team containing at least one electric type. Gunnms seem especially vulnerable to electrical attacks. Electricity interferes with their ability to function on a conscious level, and several powerful electric attacks can usually disable or knock out this breed. Extreme caution should be taken as members of the breed will fight with a reckless abandon. If a tamer has no electric types another strategy is to try to wear the Gunnm out through hit and run tactics.

Thresholding directly into a Gunnm is practically non-existent, and only two recorded cases of threshold into a Gunnm have ever been recorded. Most of this breed are obtained through evolving a Battle Angel, as this breed rarely undergoes parthogenesis, and births after second puberty are just as rare.
