Nearly a hundred years after first getting their hands on the Furia, and after a great deal of time studying and experimenting with the technical knowledge gleaned from the pokégirls, the scientists of the colonies made an attempt at creating a copy of the Furia, possibly even upgrading her capabilities in a new generation. Taking samples from the GunValkyrie in an effort to increase her firepower they began the long process of combining and growing a pokégirl. The major hurdle of the project was replicating the highly complex power source of the Furia, which was effectively impossible despite the best efforts of the colonies brightest minds. So they turned to alter forms reversed engineered from other sources, and they produced a system they felt would be able to provide the best results. 27 months of slow growth later the first of her line stepped out of its tank, and was christened with her with the rather uninspired moniker 'Vanguardia', though most refer to the breed simply as the 'Guardia'.

Physically smaller than the Furia, the Vanguardia is just over 6ft in height and she shares many of the physical characteristics of her Furia origins, but beyond the general appearance, their differences are vast. She has the same retractable armour, though not as heavy as the Furia's and it tends to be the same grey to black coloration with personal highlights at key points. Groups of Vanguardia also tend to adopt badges and emblems like squadrons of old. Typically Vanguardia's are aggressive girls, eager to take the proactive roll in almost all things from combat, to competition, and even in taming. Although not dominant, they will most likely be the ones to initiate an activity rather than wait around for something to happen. That said, they are also not stupid, and as such do not rush into situations unprepared, they just are more likely to be on point when the action finally happens. They also tend to be constantly aware of what's going on around them, especially in areas they consider 'neutral' or 'hostile', as such taming can be a problem unless there are others on guard during a taming or other activity, leaving an individual Vanguardia free to focus her attention on other matters.

It was quickly discovered that the Vanguardia was not capable of performing the large scale transformation of her Furia cousins, instead they changed into a fighter sized craft which was faster and more manoeuvrable, but couldn't take the same level of punishment of the Furia. Secondly, they couldn't carry any cargo, not even a pilot, since there was no space or access to place anything inside the fighter form. And thirdly, the Vanguardia gained the ability of creating a weapon and its ammunition in both fighter and pokégirl forms. In fighter form, these weapons are a pair of machinegun-style weapons mounted on either side of the middle line of the craft. The second is a 'rocket pod' mounted in the leaded edge of each wing that fires in volleys towards it opponents. In pokégirl form, her weapon payload is reduced to a man portable version of her machinegun.

The major flaw of the Vanguardia is her diet. Her need to consume sizable amounts of sustenance from several sources can be a hassle. She requires a higher than average human's portion of food for her basic sustenance. Add to that the need to consume large quantities of minerals and metals to provide material for her ammunition and weapons, as well as her need to 'recharge' via direct sunlight for several hours a day, or some other form of direct energy recharge, in order to power her flyer transformation and form. Colonial leadership however sees the logistical hurdle worth the effort considering her performance in the role of escort and gunship.

In flight, the Vanguardia's VTOL like capabilities are highly impressive, able to accelerate to extreme speeds quickly, stop just as fast, turn on a dime and hover in mid air make her perfect in her role. In her pokégirl form, she possesses those same qualities with the aid of her thrusters, allowing her to continue her work as the Furia's bodyguards no matter the conditions. Though they prefer to keep at range, allowing them to manoeuvre around their opponents for attacks of opportunity, they prefer to work in teams to wear down their target. If unable to manoeuvre, or are dealing one on one with an opponent, they are fully capable of hand to hand combat with several strong steel techniques at their disposal.
