Before the official recordings of Scarecrow evolution, myths abounded about how exactly, a Boobleaf or Ivywhore could become a Scarecrow. Some said that a Boobleaf or Ivywhore not given enough sunlight or water will wither and become a Scarecrow. Others speculate that a Haunting decided to take possession of the Pokégirl, causes the evolution into a Scarecrow. And others speculate that the change from Boobleaf to Scarecrow is from a dormant gene within the Pokégirl that is brought to the forefront. The mystery ended, however, when Researchers touched a Boobleaf with a Dusk Stone, and later added the evolution to the Ivywhore as well through further research.
A Scarecrow is quite different from her pre-evolved form. Her skin, which was a vibrant and healthy green before is now a dull yellowish tan coloring. Her hair becomes strands of straw compared to the vine-like hair she had before. The Scarecrow will also want to wear clothing, usually looking for denim overalls, work gloves, boots, and/or a bandana to wear around her neck. The only thing she doesn’t lose in mass is her chest size, which while being a more yellow color, is still firm like her pre-evolved form. Boobleafs that evolve into Scarecrows see their eyes change color from varying greens to a myriad of browns and golds, seeming to signify the change from live plant to ghost plant. The seeds and leaves also wither and turn brown, falling off and leaving small circular scars on their wrists and neck.. Ivywhores find that the lightly bloomed bulb on their back has withered and died, leaving them with only a discolored 'scar' where their flower once was.
A Scarecrow is a Ghost-type Pokégirl, yet like a Succubus, a Scarecrow has a physical form. This is one of the reasons why a Scarecrow cannot Phase like most Ghost-types do. Unlike their new Succubi sisters, however, a Scarecrow's physical form is not solid ether, but an actual body, making many researchers puzzle at how she can be a primary ghost type while still having a physical body. One thing is for certain, however, Scarecrows are constantly thirsty and tend to drink twice the normal amount of fluids as a human. This need for water often pairs them with water type Pokégirls, which most of the breed get along with very well. Due to the nature of dried plant material, Scarecrows are very light, often weighing only half of what other Pokégirls their size would weigh. This causes some trouble from flying types, as they can often literally blow the Scarecrow away.
While Taming, a Scarecrow is often shy following her evolution, her new nature making her somewhat self conscious. This shyness doesn't last very long, however, as most new Scarecrows fall back into their old habits and preferences soon after their evolution. Tamers should use lubrication during every taming session, as the dry nature of a Scarecrow also translates to dryness problems. Even her vines are dryer and a bit more rough, and Scarecrows themselves are encouraged to lube up if they want to participate in any form of vine play with their tamers or harem sisters.
Most Scarecrows are generally friendly and most retain their personalities from their previous evolution, with the addition of some self deprecating humor. They enjoy jokes to startle and frighten their harem sisters and friends, but this is all in the name of good fun. Oddly, Scarecrows seem to be extremely adept at weaving together spooky campfire stories, though this is speculated to be from their new-found ghost type nature.
There are variants in this behavior, as noted by one such Scarecrow who was unfortunate enough to become the object of obsession by a Jokette. Through constant interaction with the psychotic clown Pokégirl, the Scarecrow became a monster herself, finding ways to scare people that often involved the Jokette finishing them off later. Both of these Pokégirls were quickly caught and euthanized via Poképower. While this is an extreme case, it does showcase that this Pokégirl’s Fear Aura may be a bigger part of her personality than previously thought. But research is ongoing and inconclusive.
In combat, a Scarecrow will do her best to psyche out her opponent, usually trying to hurt and confuse them by using their Fear Aura and Nightshade from the start of the battle. They can also use their Lick attack and Energy Drain to attempt to a win, though they also fall back on their previous abilities in regards to their plant based attacks. Oddly, their loss of their respective outward plant traits does not limit their ability to use their respective vine attacks, since the vines still grow from their respective areas. Even their Razor Leaf attacks are still usable, though often the Razor Leaves are curled and brittle, shattering to do damage rather than striking true. One of these attacks, Wither, is used most often to counter another Plant types Command Plants or other such attacks. It should be noted to all Tamer that if a Scarecrow is hit by a fire-based attack they're in deadly trouble. A Scarecrow, being “drier” than most Plant-types takes severe damage from fire-based attacks. Up to and including full immolation.
Feral Scarecrow are few and far between, only parthenogenesis keeping their numbers up in the wild, as Dusk Stones are hard to find. The feral state of this Pokégirl is odd, as she is often found in the midst of farmlands, at the edges of crops. These Pokégirls stay inhumanly still during the day, only moving by surprise to frighten anything away from their respective areas of territory, which are often no larger than a wreckball field. At night however, they patrol their territory, often hunting and foraging for food. Tamers should be forewarned, that a Scarecrow is no longer photosynthetic, or even a herbivore. They're opportunistic omnivores, who will attack if hungry. This makes a feral Scarecrow both a blessing and a curse to some farmers, as the Scarecrow often keeps away ferals by their territorial claims, but also chases out the farmers themselves and eats some of the crops or livestock. More often than not, wandering tamers are asked to rid a farm of these Pokégirls. Taking out a feral Scarecrow is simple during the day, as they often stand immobile out in the open. A fire type takes them out easily, though this method has caused the death of many a feral Scarecrow.
Threshold Scarecrows are rare as well, as many thresholders are more likely to become Boobleafs, Ivywhores, or a ghost type given their ancestry. The first threshold case earned the breed it's nickname, since Mommet is a rarely used term for a Scarecrow in the Blue League, where Agatha Crane thresholded for the first known instance.
