During the very beginning of the Revenge War, humans attempted to gain an upper hand by using amphibious assaults upon areas that Sukebe was suspected to have had a genetic factory or safehouse built along the shorelines of the world. When certain world governments attacked with such tactics, they found themselves with a much worse success rate than anyone could have anticipated, thanks in large part to Sukebe's careful defensive planning. Before the human soldiers could even reach the beaches, upon which his defensive wall of pokegirls were waiting, many never even made it that far thanks to his first line of amphibious defense/offense: the Matratya pokegirl. Accounts from survivors told of strange, human-like pokegirls that hid underwater and in the shallows, who used their tails to wrap up the human soldier's legs and dragged them into deeper water before either killing them with various techniques or by drowning them. Several ships were destroyed by their attacks as well, sinking into the shallow waters and becoming little more than death traps for those still onboard. These accounts became rumors that spread quickly throughout the world, and in many locations made civilians and soldiers alike dread going anywhere near the coast. After the war ended, however, the Matratya became scarce and very difficult to find for the same reasons, and the shorelines became avoided by humans for the very reason.

Physically, these pokegirls appear much like human females from a distance. With a similar size and hair color to that of human women, it's only when one gets up close, or even underwater, that one could easily discover that they are actually pokegirls. Most pokegirls of this breed have pale blue skin, with either deep blue or purple skin markings that line along the pokegirl's limbs and bodies, often following the internal path of the pokegirl's bones. These markings have also been noted in light tan or brown colors, though these are rather rare to find Upon the pokegirl's forearms are large fins that are just as long as the pokegirl's arms, which extend out from just above the pokegirl's wrists. Underwater, they give the appearance that the pokegirl is actually flying through the water itself, which has led to some tamers and watchers to calling the Matratya breed the 'Harpies of the Sea.' A long tail that is easily as long as the pokegirl is tall, and sometimes up to 50% longer, they taper into a dual-fin at the end that has markings that are identical to those found on the pokegirl's arm fins. The pokegirl has a set of gills along the sides of their neck, allowing her to breathe underwater, rather than having to emerge for oxygen at the surface like some other water-dwelling pokegirls.

These pokegirls are typically gentle unless angered, using a combination of their Scent Alteration, Fade, and their ability to disappear into water much like a chameleon can camouflage itself to hide from hunters. It should be noted that their skin can only operate in such a manner while fully submerged. In battles, however, the pokegirl relies on a combination of ambushing those that would prey upon them and psychically attacking before attempting to engage in direct battle with others. They are not especially adept at sex battles, but a well trained Matratya can be just as effective, or even more so, than others thanks to the possibilities afforded the breed by their tail and arm fins. They are not especially fast, however, unless in water, but have excellent reflexes and can turn on a dime, to quote an ancient phrase..

In a harem, these pokegirls are quite easy to get along with almost any other pokegirl breed. Their overall gentle demeanor contrasts with the way that records from the Revenge War suggests that they are like, which makes them quite popular among tamers and watchers alike. However, this demeanor does not make them a good choice when it comes to having any leadership positions, though there have been a few records of some being given Beta positions within a tamer's harem. Tamers and owners of a Matratya should beware, however, that the pokegirl's arm fins are quite sensitive to the touch, though that sensitivity is dulled when the pokegirl uses the Iron Defense technique or any technique that utilizes them- researchers are not completely agreed as to how this happens, but most believe that it is because the pokegirl's mind is more set upon using a damaging technique than getting hurt, once the attack is underway.

Feral Matratya are not easy to locate, but it is likely that they can be found along shorelines away from civilized areas, and even amongst areas where pokegirls such as Gynadose or Sharptits can often be encountered thanks to the use of the Scent Alteration technique and their underwater camouflage. Unlike what history books suggest to children in school, the ferals of this breed are just as gentle as they are once tamed, and often attempt to escape once confronted by anyone/anything that is hunting for them. Threshold cases are extremely rare, however, with only one or two on average per year, per league, over the past hundred years since such numbers began to be kept in most places.
