The Ursine's birth was an oddity to say the least. Despite being around and active in the Revenge war, notes have been found to suggest that this was one of Cocooner's first projects. The notes had suggested that the Ursine was the one of her first attempts to combine different animal DNA sequences to that of her creations. In this case, Brown (which are usually called Grizzlars coming from their Grizzly Bear origins) and Black Bears. While these are the two main basis that are seen in today's breeds, it isn't unusual to stumble across an Ursine that looks like another species of bear, Sun Bear, and can be attributed to regional differences (with those of the Sun Bear variety being much more common in Forest). Despite their varying heights, many Ursines are usually taller than six foot, although a rare few ever reach close to nine.

Feral Ursine have continued to fight in the same in-your-face manner since the war. They charge in head first and rely mostly on their strength, endurance, and durability to over come obstacles. This trait has also lead to the domesticated members of the breed. Most Domesticates are headstrong and strong willed individuals. They are single minded in their goals and are often considered stubborn by other members of the harem and even the Tamers themselves. Because of this the Ursine could be capable Alphas because of their stubbornness, putting the betterment of the harem above everything else. Unfortunately their stubbornness can also keep them from being decent Alphas, being unbending in something that is obviously a bad decision.

What baffles most people is that while the Ursine is usually seen as an easily obtainable powerhouse for beginners, these girls are surprisingly intellectual. When allowed and given the chance to, many Ursines have been seen lounging around and reading books. While the act of teaching a pokégirl how to read is still a taboo in many Leagues, those that do are often rewarded with an intelligent girl that's well read in many subjects.

The Ursines in the colder climates, especially ferals, usually enter a torpid state during the winter months. Their body's metabolism slows down, allowing them to store fat more efficiently for the winter months. While those that have been domesticated usually don't slip into slumber the same way that their feral counter parts do, they do become much more relaxed, almost as if they are in a dazed. During this time tamed Ursines have been more known to pick up books for reading (if they are allowed to do so) and even relaxing when they would usually insist on training. And while the Ursines in more tropical climates are usually active all year around, they have been noticed to take it easy during the months that would be considered 'winter' or 'rainy'.

Thresholding into an Ursine is not an unusually occurrence, especially if the girl has a history of having Bear-based girls in her lineage. Thresholding is usually marked by a slight psychological shift at first, the girl becoming more interested in books and bull-headed. It's usually during the second week that the girl begins the more painful psychical transformations. The most painful aspect for many is when the ears change shape and start moving to the top of their heads, and the pain is usually a distraction from the increase muscle mass which usually causes accidental injuries.
