Evolution through contact with a unique item is not uncommon amongst pokegirls. Hundreds of pokegirls have evolutions available to them through the use of E-stones and E-medals. Some Pokegirls, like the Barriermaiden or the Killerbreast, evolve when they come into contact with products naturally created by other pokegirls. What makes the Duelist unique is that she is the only pokegirl who evolves from contact with a mass produced item designed by humans.

Duelist are pokegirls who evolved through contact with card games. This can happen in one of two ways. The rarest is a result of stress, Tarot and Duelettes reaching out for the nearest cards available and infusing their magic with them during a desperate situation. This evolution requires a tremendous amount of pressure, usually a ‘life or death’ situation level of tension. The other route is a result of obsession. When a Tarot or Duelette becomes so consumed by a certain card game that it becomes the focus of most of their time these pokegirls slowly have their will and magic redirect itself from their old cards to their new game. Their obsession must be genuine and willing, forcing a pokegirl to play these games for days does not guarantee one a Duelist. This method takes much longer, a month being the shortest evolution to card game introduction on record.

Duelist don’t change much from their previous forms. Still very near human they may grow an inch or two and/or become a little more shapely. Those who evolved from Tarot tend to look their age a bit more, but generally retain their youthfulness. Their style of dress varies significantly depending on their evolution. Former Duelettes often dress like tomboys, wearing clothes similar to those of male tamers. Former Tarots are more likely to cosplay as certain characters from their preferred card game. There are rare exceptions, but such cases are usually at the insistence of the pokegirls tamer.

Upon evolving a Duelist loses all of her previous cards. If they were a Duelette than all of the items they formerly carried inside of their cards will be released. If they were a Tarot then the spirits they controlled will be released and roam free, able pass on to the afterlife or be captured by another Tarot. From that point on a Duelist has the ability to summon creatures and spells from any card game she chooses. At first it was thought that these creatures where actually being summoned from another dimension, hence the breeds title. As more Duelist were created researchers began to notice discrepancies between different Duelists’ interpretations of the same cards. This revealed the Duelist’s creatures as constructs of magic, though admittedly very convincing ones. Many Duelist make reference to a vaguely defined force known only as the heart of the cards, which guides them in their formation of spells and creatures. Analysis by psychic and magic types suggest this is just the imagination of the Duelist filling in the gaps for their creation.

A Duelist’s potential is as vast as her card collection, but it is also as limited as their card collection as well. A Duelist can not learn any spell that is not cast through the use of their trading cards. The only other spell they know naturally is burst and their main use for the spell is to give them room to choose the right card. They are also limited in their depiction of certain spells and creatures. Just because a card says it will instantly destroy an opponent doesn’t mean that will instantly destroy a real pokegirl. At best, the card will offer a damaging effect similar to it’s depiction on the card. Creatures are limited by a Duelist’s understanding of their abilities. A card can claim to summon a master swordsman, but unless the Duelist who crafted the creature understands the art of swordplay it will have all the skill of a butcher. A duelist can summon as many creatures as she wants, but the farther she spreads her magic the weaker they become. This effect is also relevant to the size of the spell or creature being summoned. Just because a card promises a skyscraper sized behemoth doesn’t mean a Duelist can sustain one. Such a creature would either be shrunken down by the duelist or amount to little more than a paper tiger.

Nerdy is probably the word most commonly associated with Duelists. All of these pokegirls are extremely intelligent with perfect memories to boot. Pretty much all Duelist can be expected to have encyclopedic knowledge of every single card in their preferred card games. They also pursue any field of knowledge that helps them shape their creatures and spells more realistically. This makes for an odd pokegirl whose obsession actually produces a rather well rounded individual. They tend to get along well with others and are noted as being very optimistic. Their intelligence combined with their potential for both battle and support roles can make them decent alphas, although personality can effect their ability as well.

Taming is a pretty basic affair for most Duelist, fetishes differing from girl to girl. They tend to enjoy it when their tamer will cosplay for them as characters from their card games, but can get along fine if they refuse. If a game includes human characters they’ll occasionally summon them up for extra fun, this being just about the only advantage they have in sex battles.

Feral Duelist are rare, usually the result of abuse or a loss of tamer in the wilderness. They lose much of their vaulted intelligence, though they’re still smart enough to speak, although their speech is broken and simplistic. They’ll usually summon a few creatures from there favorite card game and have them search for food, protect her from attackers, and occasionally kidnap taming partners. Having a pokegirl distract her summons while having another attack the duelist is usually the best method of capture.

Thresholding directly into a Duelist is thought to be impossible, but Tarots and Duelettes can quickly evolve into a Duelist if they’re already fascinated with a card game. Duelist usually give birth to either Tomboy or Tarot pokekits.
