After three years of war, the Slot League suffers a stunning defeat at the hands of the psychics and gives control of the lab to the Silver River League. However, tensions remain high.

Thus, the Slot government allows Doctor Chernwich, who has developed a host of new genetic manipulation techniques that combine magic and science, to create the perfect tamer to combat the Silver River's psychics. After several years he manages to produce what he thinks matches that goal. This is the story of his 18th subject.
